Summer 2004 Update!

VALENCIA 2007 AMERICA ’S CUP

“Much ado about money” Rumors are always rife in re the Cup. Let’s pass some on. The following are probable as Challengers for 2007; money the key obstacle. We estimate 50 million Euros as a minimum to field a serious challenge. Many managerial improvements have been made by and with America ’s Cup Management smoothing out the myriad details required in rules and regulations to stage the 2007 Challenger Defender America’s Cup Races. Valencia , well supported by the Spanish Government, is furiously attacking the shore facility and logistical considerations to have all in readiness. I believe that this will be a 2 billion party not to be missed and a great competition. Remember, no prize money, only everlasting fame, sailing glory, national pride and notoriety are the rewards.

Having just returned from sailing two weeks in the Aegean Sea , I was reminded of the beauty and perfect sailing conditions of the Mediterranean . The Balearic Sea off of Valencia out to Majorca will prove no exception.

Challenger and Fees paid, Oracle Racing, USA and Clan Des Team, Italy . Defender, Alinghi of Switzerland .

Others, probable

SAF South Africa Challenge, three from France , K-Challenge, Team France , Le Defi; more from Italy, The Italian Challenge, Luna Rossa, Mascalzone Latino, Toscanna Challenge; GBRChallenge, GBR; Sausalito Challenge, USA; Team Dennis Conner, USA; OzBoyz, Australia and C7 Asia-Australia. The next six months will solidify those that have put up their money and are a definite “go”. Web sites for Challengers will be here as available.

My crystal ball shows that between 8 and 10 Challengers will make it. Sweden and Spain are even under consideration, we shall see! You will see many changes for 2007, shorter courses, better TV coverage, good spectator viewing, correct call on too much or too little wind conditions and fair judging by officials.

MINOR NOTES

Valencia Soccer Ream wins UEFA Cup, a very “big deal” in the Soccer world.

I went to World Laser Championship site in Bitez , Turkey May 12th, saw some 100 plus new Lasers unloaded, how about that for equality for all 300 racers.

September 5 to 11th, Valencia , Spain , ACC Regatta
September 25 to October 2nd,  Naples-Marseilles ACC Regatta
